World Cultural Heritage Völklinger Hütte, Völklingen [Saar] (DE)
The Voelklinger Huette was shut-down as a steelplant in 1986 and in 1994 became the first industrial monument in UNESCO's list of the world's cultural patrimony. Shutting-down the plant of Voelklingen had left many people unemployed, so the inhabitants of this region looked at the dark plant with mixed emotions. Through the light-installation the Voelklinger Huette became a place of attraction once again.
